Murcom Completes Restoration of Cappogue Gate Lodge

Cappogue Gate Lodge Completion – Another project completion we’re particularly proud of — the careful restoration of a once-derelict cottage, now brought back to life through our Murcom Conservation division.

This project centred on a sensitive, conservation-led approach, with a strong focus on retaining and restoring the building’s original character and fabric. Wherever possible, existing materials were preserved, repaired and re-used in line with best practice in heritage conservation.

Works included the refurbishment of original cast-iron rainwater goods, re-roofing using salvaged natural slates, and specialist timber splicing repairs to the existing roof structure. Original timber brackets were carefully restored and reinstated, while existing windows and doors were fully repaired to maintain the building’s authenticity.

The external façade was gently cleaned and re-finished using traditional lime render, ensuring breathability and long-term durability. Brickwork was raked out and re-pointed using appropriate lime mortars, while chimneys were re-flaunched and completed with new pots and cowls in keeping with the original aesthetic.

This project is a great example of our commitment to sympathetic restoration, material conservation, and traditional craftsmanship, combining heritage expertise with modern construction management to deliver a high-quality finish.
